Mennomight Blog #1

I thought I’d use this blog to create some Anabaptist conversation:

I personally love the language of Peter Rollins when he says conversion happens when we are seduced by the divine. Central to Anabaptist life is being centered in Christology.

Lets keep this one simple:

What is it about Jesus that seduces you?

One thing that amazes me to this day is his unbelievable ability to love and serve the ones that hate him. His love is not based on my response. He genuinely wants our best…he wants us…no matter what we do.

  2. Sarah says:

One story that gets me every time is Jesus’ response to the woman and the religious experts in the beginning of John chapter 8. He has not come to condemn the world but to save it. This echoes James Jones’ comment, which I wholeheartedly agree with. This is the mission he passed on to us. To act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.

  3. Nate Kittelson says:

I personally love that He can love us in ways that we can only hope to emulate. It gives me a goal. I also love how human He is. There’s that one verse that simply says “Jesus wept.” It’s so cool and moving that He did and as a concequence we can find such a strong connection with Him in our sorrows.

  4. First, I was initially taken aback with your word choice of “seduce.” And then I thought… “no! That’s awesome. Jesus is a pretty good seducer. I should be more easily seducable.”

All thoughts that maybe should stay in my head. But what seduces me most, draws me in most to jesus, leaves me in awe, etc… is this:

His sensitivity to the needs of those around Him, however seemingly small or arbitrary. He seemed pretty good at picking up on nuances. And then of course, most incredible is His sensitivity to the weak. To the ordinary. To the “other.”

    That always gets me.
