Foundational Teachings for Children

I posted a question asking what were some of the foundational things to teach our kids, here are some of the responses:

How much they are loved and their true worth.

That they are loved unconditionally. Also, how to maintain a sense of humor.

Compassion for others.

Humility, respect, and basic manners.

To love others, to be inclusive.

Fairness, determination, responsibility.

Be kind to others and to themselves.

To not hate. You have to be taught to hate. Love comes naturally but it’s often hidden by hate. Kids need to feel love & give love.

I aim for kindness, fairness, resilience, hope and the importance of working hard.

To think about other people’s feelings.

Reflection and discernment.

Honesty, financial responsibility, integrity, forgiveness, sense of irony, patience!

To love recklessly and without bounds.

Respect — not only for elders, but peers as well. Also, a love of learning. Those two things go a long way.

Obedience and respect.

Love GOD, live in community, respect self, protect nature, practice simplicity, silence and study.

How to know, understand, communicate, and maintain healthy boundaries It is how we respect ourselves and respect others.

Would you have any to add?

  2. “You shall therefore lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” Duet. 11:18-19

If God says it. We should be teaching it.
